HBO Max has renewed The Other Two for a third season just one day after the final two episodes of season two were released on the streaming service. The series, which stars Drew Tarver, Heléne Yorke, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, and Case Walker and was co-created by former SNL head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, “has ranked among HBO Max’s most popular series since the release of season two and has seen steady growth each week as new episodes have been released. ” Not bad for a show that Comedy Central unceremoniously sold off.
Tarver and Yorke portray Cary and Brooke Dubek, two young siblings who are fighting to find their identities and create their careers in the shadow of their adolescent brother and 50-year-old mother’s sudden fame and fortune. The two can come across as sad and embarrassing as the It’s Always Sunny gang in their perplexity and desperation, but their strong familial ties give them a human edge that prevents the show from being as cartoonish as Sunny.
From how it’s an unexpectedly warm take on the cringe comedy genre, to how the always brilliant Yorke firmly established herself as one of TV’s top comedic actresses throughout season two, Paste has written a lot about The Other Two. If you’re a fan of pop-culture satire, you’ll love this show, which is snappy and well-written enough to savagely poke fun at the ridiculousness of it all while presenting fully-realized characters. After today’s announcement, the show will be around for at least another ten episodes.
If you haven’t seen the first two seasons of The Other Two yet, you can watch them in full on HBO Max. The third and final season will air at some future date.
